I’ve heard some version of this more times than I can count:
“Maybe lifting weights just isn’t for me.”
And I understand why someone would think that.
You tried it.
Your shoulder started bothering you.
So you stopped.
A few months later, you tried again.
This time it was your knee.
Stopped again.
Then your doctor tells you that you really should be strength training as you get older.
Great.
Except every time you try…
Something hurts.
Eventually it’s pretty easy to conclude:
“My body just doesn’t tolerate strength training.”
Maybe.
But there’s another possibility.
Maybe you haven’t failed strength training.
Maybe the strength training you’ve tried failed you.
Wrong exercise.
Too much weight.
Too much range of motion.
Too much volume.
Too much too soon.
Those are programming problems.
Not character flaws.
And they’re usually adjustable.
You don’t need to prove that your body can survive somebody else’s workout.
You need a workout designed for the body you actually have.
Tired of Getting Hurt Every Time You Try to Get Stronger?
Then stop treating the problem like you need more motivation.
You may not need to work harder.
You may simply need a better plan.
At Stowe Personal Training in Austin, I work specifically with adults over 50 who want to get stronger without beating up their knees, shoulders, backs, or the rest of their body in the process.
No bootcamps.
No burpees.
No proving how tough you are.
Just intelligent strength training built around the body you actually have today.

Good.
You shouldn’t hire a coach because somebody on the internet rushed you into it.
