Feel Stronger, Healthier, and More Energized After 50—With a Program Built Just for You
If you’re over 50, you may feel like your fitness isn’t what it used to be.
What once felt energizing now seems tough on your body, and seeing fewer results for the same effort can be frustrating. And if you haven’t stepped into a gym before things may feel even more intimidating.
But here’s the good news: with the right approach, fitness can still be safe, effective, and enjoyable at any age—because, let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than getting injured while trying to get healthier, or feeling like you look foolish doing it.
My program is built specifically for people over 50, with workouts that match where you are today—not where you were years ago or where some magazine says you “should” be.
Every session is designed to build lasting strength, flexibility, and energy, all while staying safe on your joints.
There is a path forward, one that understands and embraces the unique needs of your body at this stage of life.
What Makes This Program Different?
This program isn’t about “pushing through pain” or trying to turn back the clock.
It’s about finding exercises that meet you where you are today, helping you build strength, flexibility, and confidence in a way that feels good for your body.
Here are just a few benefits you’ll experience:
Build strength without straining joints or risking injury.
Improve flexibility and joint health through low-impact, functional exercises.
Boost energy, confidence, and overall well-being in a supportive, age-appropriate environment.
No need to push through high-impact workouts that leave you feeling sore or worried about injury.
Instead, each workout is joint-friendly and designed to support your goals safely.
Imagine yourself pain-free and feeling strong—ready to give it a try?

Nate Stowe, NASM-CPT, NCSF-CPT, CES, TRXCertified
Nate Stowe is a personal trainer and movement specialist based in Austin, Texas, with over 16 years of experience helping adults over 50 move better, get stronger, and live pain-free. He’s the founder of Stowe Personal Training – Fitness Over 50 in Austin, creator of the GET STRONGER LIVE ONGERProgram, and author of Revitalize at 50+, a best-selling book on strength, longevity, and reclaiming your body after middle age.
Over the past two decades, Nate’s training system has helped hundreds of everyday adults avoid surgery, reduce chronic pain, and get back to doing the things they love—without needing a medical degree or spending hours in the gym.
Don’t worry—he saves the third-person talk for bios, not your training sessions. Sixteen years in, he’s still awkward when writing about himself.
Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Training for Adults 50+ in Austin
1. What makes Stowe Personal Training different from other gyms in Austin?
Answer: If you’ve ever walked into a gym and felt out of place—like it was built for someone younger, louder, or more obsessed with mirrors—you’re not alone. That’s exactly why I started Stowe Personal Training.
2. Do I need to be in shape before starting personal training?
Answer: Nope. That’s like saying you need to clean your house before the maid comes.
Most of the people I work with are starting after a long layoff—or starting for the first time ever. You won’t be judged, rushed, or thrown into a bootcamp. You’ll move at your pace, with a plan that fits where you are now.
3. Is Stowe Personal Training only for adults over 50?
Answer: That’s who I specialize in. But if you’re a little younger and want to train without beating up your joints or doing random workouts—you’ll fit right in.
This isn’t about age. It’s about training with purpose.
4. What happens during the initial consultation?
Answer: No pressure, no sales pitch, no awkward measurements.
You’ll walk in, we’ll talk about your goals, go through a simple movement screen, and I’ll show you exactly how we’d build your plan. Most people leave saying, “I wish I’d done this sooner.”
5. Where are you located?
Answer: The private studio is in Central Austin—right near The Triangle at 5501 N Lamar Blvd. It’s easy to find, has free parking, and no gym crowd to deal with. It’s just you, me, and a space built for progress.
6. How are workouts customized for each person?
Answer: First, I learn about your body: injuries, surgeries, goals, fears—the full story.
Then I build your plan around it. That’s why I have 70-year-olds getting stronger than they were at 40. Because when a plan actually fits you, everything changes.
7. Can I still train if I’ve had surgery or joint pain?
Answer: Absolutely. In fact, most of the people I train come in thinking they can’t.
Knee replacements, back surgeries, frozen shoulders—you name it. My job is to work around the pain, rebuild your strength, and help you move with confidence again.

“Nate helped me surpass my goals!”
When I first considered personal training I was hoping to reduce knee pain and strength train around my knees, back, and shoulders pain-free – if possible. Having worked with trainers before, I was concerned that Nate would have the cookie cutter approach to training I’d experienced with the others. I wondered if he would have solutions for how I could add strength and tiness while working with my personal physical limitations: bad knees, bum shoulder, back, and neck issues. Could he help me move in ways that increased my fitness level without adding to my pain and physical issues?
So far my knee pain is gone, my overall strength is at an all-time high, I am able to enjoy hiking and walking without pain for the first time in 25 years! That allows me to do more forms of activity, which affords me greater fitness and enjoyment from life. I’m also the strongest I’ve ever been and that feels awesome at age 51! I am now moving and feeling better which has translated into looking better. As a friend said – “No One Rocks a Pair of Jeans Like Margo”.

Are you over 50 and feeling like your fitness journey has become more of a challenge than a source of joy?
You’re certainly not alone in this.
As we step into our golden years, many of us find ourselves at a crossroads, facing workouts that no longer resonate with our changing bodies. The once enjoyable morning jogs or gym sessions now seem daunting, filled with the fear of injury or the frustration of not seeing the results we used to.
It’s a common narrative: the exercises that once worked wonders now feel strenuous, and the lack of visible progress can be disheartening. You might even find yourself questioning whether it’s too late to achieve the health and vitality you desire.
This uncertainty, coupled with the myriad of conflicting fitness advice out there, can leave you feeling lost and unsure of where to turn. It’s a problem faced by many in their 50s, but it’s a problem that shouldn’t define your fitness journey.
The truth is, while our bodies change, our right to a fulfilling and effective fitness routine does not. The challenges you face are real, but they are not insurmountable.
There is a path forward, one that understands and embraces the unique needs of your body at this stage of life.

“I feel great! I regularly go to the gym and enjoy the experience.”
Severe, lower back pain is truly debilitating. I had been dealing with back pain most of my life, stemming from a childhood injury. In 2010, despite having worked with numerous physicians and physical therapists, I was experiencing unbearable pain which consistently interrupted daily activities. I had become bed ridden, and in desperation, I sought nerve block injection therapy. I was wary of continuing this treatment long-term, so I again sought out physical therapy options. I read an ad that 24 Hour’s trainers could help with any physical goals. I started working with Nate Stowe, a 24 Hour Master Trainer.
Over a two-year period, Nate focused my workouts on core strength building. He taught me invaluable lessons to improve my well-being one session at a time. He transferred his knowledge and skill so that I understood how my body was responding to each exercise, how to maintain proper form and breathing, and balanced eating and resting.
Today I am pain-free. It’s beyond amazing! I do not worry about back pain and a limited lifestyle any longer. I am confident how I may prevent future injury. Thanks to Nate’s patience and belief in me, my physical health and emotional well-being have momentously improved. In addition to being relieved of back pain, my legs have significantly grown and, honestly, I feel great!
I regularly go to the gym and enjoy the experience. I am most grateful to Nate for I believe I would not have accomplished any of this without his guidance, encouragement, expertise, and humor. Thank you, Nate!

Turning Doubts into Triumphs: Overcoming Common Fitness Hurdles After 50
“My aches and pains have receded and are virtually gone”
My name is Susannah. I am a fifty-eight year old retired teacher. I began working with Nathan in July of 2011. My back was aching, I was having degenerated disc problems, and my hands were starting to show signs of arthritis. Luckily for me, during the registration process, Nathan just happened to walk by and the salesperson stopped him and asked him to talk to me. Nathan’s responses reminded me of talks with physical therapists when I was recovering from shoulder surgery.
Wow! He really seemed knowledgeable! I was immediately impressed, and signed up to be his client. Before I started training with Nathan, I was 5 feet 5 inches tall, I weighed around 144 pounds. I certainly didn’t look or feel my best. Sleeveless shirts were totally out! And I had no idea what to do to improve my fitness level without injuring myself.
Nathan was very patient with me, and was willing to work with me over the long haul. Nathan has a way of encouraging me and ALWAYS keeping a positive attitude himself. And he encourages that same positive attitude with his clients. He always introduces the “next level” with a big smile of encouragement, and will not let me think FOR ONE SINGLE MOMENT that I am not ready to do this. His confidence wipes away any self-doubts that I might have had about my ability to take on something harder.
Nathan knew that someone in my condition needed a long-term approach to be successful. He did not take any short-cuts, and did not progress me until I was ready. He let me proceed at my own pace, which was slow but steady. However, like the tortoise in the fable, I am winning the race! Now, I am strong enough to go all day long without needing to rest my back. Biking has become easier, too. Those pitiful little inclines are no longer a problem. I weigh 125 lbs and wear size 4 pants. People who haven’t seen me in a while ask me, “WHAT IN THE WORLD HAVE YOU DONE?” I feel great, too! My aches and pains have receded and are virtually gone. I can even wear sleeveless tops without being embarrassed. I even get comments on my arms.

Envision you’re at a crossroads, the path to a new fitness journey stretching out before you
Hesitation grips you, a chorus of doubts whispering in your ear.
“Am I too old for this?” “What if I get injured?” “Can I really find the time?”
These aren’t just fleeting thoughts; they’re the echoes of concerns shared by many who stand where you are, especially as they navigate the later chapters of life. But let me share with you a story, a narrative that weaves a different tapestry of possibility.
Visualize someone like you, let’s call her Sarah.
At 55, her life is a vibrant tapestry of experiences, but the thread of fitness seems frayed. She harbors doubts, the same ones that perhaps linger in your mind.
“I’m too old to start,” she thinks.
Yet, when Sarah steps into my program, tailored for the golden years, a transformation begins. She discovers exercises that are a gentle caress to her body, not a harsh demand. Safety and progress dance together in a routine that respects her pace, her needs.
Then there’s John, whose fear of injury loomed like a shadow over his fitness aspirations. In my sanctuary of low-impact, joint-friendly exercises, he finds a haven. Strength and flexibility grow in a space where risk is a stranger, and his body’s capabilities are honored guests.
Consider Emma, caught in the whirlwind of life’s demands.
Time, that elusive treasure, seemed too scarce for fitness. Yet, my program’s flexibility becomes her compass, guiding her to weave health into the fabric of her daily life, showing that it’s never too late to embrace well-being. And what of consistency, results, the value of this journey?
These are the silent battles, the internal dialogues that often go unheard.
Picture Mark, whose journey from sporadic efforts to a consistent, fulfilling routine is a testament to the power of community and personalized guidance. Or Linda, whose doubts about achieving results at her age dissolve as she witnesses her own transformation, a story of renewal and possibility.
This journey, dear friend, is about silencing doubts and discovering a realm of fitness that is not just a dream, but a tangible, enriching reality.
It’s a story of overcoming, of finding a path that leads not just to physical health, but to a rejuvenation of the spirit.
“Nate understands the 45+ body and mindset.”

“I wanted to improve my strength and stability – especially for my knees!!”
I remember when I first walked into Stowe Training Systems. I wanted to improve my strength and stability – especially for my knees! I wasn’t sure if foam rolling would really help with this or if I would even enjoy weight training.
Well it did!
The team are very encouraging and keep working to get me stronger. So far I have been able to improve my pushups, learn how to deadlift, and most importantly gain better control of my body.
On top of the strength gains the team have an unbelievable camaraderie with one another which makes the workouts fun!

“I have indeed increased the strength of my core and legs”
When I began training I was hoping to increase my core and leg strength as well as feel and look better. However, I was concerned about beginning because my right knee is bone-on-bone and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get up and down.
I was also concerned about all the young people I would be working out in the gym with because I am a frumpy middle aged woman, guess you can call it vanity. Since I began training with Nate I have indeed increased the strength of my core and legs. I also do feel and look better! I was very comfortable with Nate’s approach and his ability to customize a workout for me.
He listened to me and my concerns and developed a program that in only 3 months are benefitting me, such as going up and down stairs with little effort. The gym is small, clean, and centrally located in Austin with all age groups which I love. I don’t like the big box gyms that are so impersonal.
Nate is gifted at keeping you engaged in working out and I can honestly say that I look forward to working out. I always feel better afterwards, I can say that exercise does indeed change your mood. Nate’s approach is one that is welcoming, he listens, develops a plan especially for you and he encourages you throughout your session.
He makes sure that you are doing each movement correctly to avoid injuries and encourages you to let him know if something doesn’t feel right. Most importantly, he is very knowledgeable and he continues to learn daily and share information with you about issues you are working on.

“I hated weight lifting and would never love it… That has changed”
I have been active my entire adult life. At the age of 68, I completely ruptured my ACL. I went the non-surgical route, and rehabbed with Pilates. 2 years into doing exclusively Pilates, I made myself admit that I needed actual strength training through weight-lifting. I hated weight-lifting – everything about it. The activity, the music, the culture, etc. I did an online search and saw the google entry, “Weight Training for 55+. I had previously dabbled with weights with a trainer that I did not feel safe with – I knew that I was going to get hurt. At 71, I need to be careful with who I train with. I found Nate (“The Great”). I will just give you a summary of what to expect:
Free one hour assessment. It’s not what you think. He is not trying to sell you during this hour – he will actually take you through a series of movements to assess your skills/abilities. You choose 2-3 days to work out with Nate, from the hours of 7-11. These are scheduled in one hour blocks. Group class size is limited to 4. You will get his full attention. He will take you through a very incremental, systematic method that he has developed after working and studying in this field for 20 years. The work is challenging but doable. I have been with Nate for 6 months, and have never been hurt. He doesn’t do dumb things. You will learn that conditioning/recovery exercises are just as important as weight-training. Nate will explain as much to you as you need or want. He pretty much knows everything.
When I joined, I told Nate that I hated weight-lifting and would never love it. That has changed. I’m having so much fun. And, the music is great, and the people are the best -a very welcoming group. Oh, and bonus – if you are a lady. Those bat-wings that you can’t get rid of?! Please see pic of my arm above. Nate is “Nate the Great”.

Decide Your Destiny: A Healthier You or the Status Quo?
In the story of your life, you now find yourself at a pivotal chapter, one where the path ahead splits in two, each leading to a different destiny.
On one side, there’s the path of the familiar, a road paved with the routines of yesterday. It’s a journey you know well, marked by the solo attempts to navigate the complexities of fitness after 50. Along this path, the same questions and uncertainties linger like old friends – the effectiveness of your workouts, the shadow of potential injuries, the sense of standing still. This path, comfortable in its predictability, also holds a hidden cost – the chance to miss out on a life reinvigorated, a life where each day brims with health and fulfillment.
Then, imagine a different path, one less traveled but rich with promise. This is the road where each new dawn brings a surge of vitality and strength. It’s a narrative of triumph, where fitness transcends the physical and becomes a source of joy and empowerment. Picture a future where you’re not just enduring life, but savoring it – engaging in cherished activities, making choices brimming with confidence, and surrounded by a fellowship of like-minded souls. This path is a journey of progress and empowerment, a celebration of the goals you achieve and the joy they bring.
The pen is in your hand, and the next chapter awaits your decision. One path offers the comfort of the known, while the other beckons with the allure of a life enriched with health, vitality, and happiness. The choice you make today is more than a mere decision; it’s the authoring of your future, a future where every page is alive with the vibrant well-being you deserve.
