When someone first signs up, I always walk them through the same 3 expectations.
It doesn’t matter if their goal is to hike 500 miles through Spain…
…play sports with their kids without needing to ice their knees after…
…or simply climb a flight of stairs without getting winded.
The goals vary. But my expectations don’t.
And over the last 16 years, I’ve found that when these 3 things are in place—progress is guaranteed.
#1: Communication
I’ll never ask you to do something just because it’s hard or because I said so.
There’s always a reason—and I’ll make sure you understand it.
But I also need your feedback. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up. I might say “Totally normal—keep going!” or “Ah, that’s not what we’re going for. Let’s tweak it.”
Same goes for exercises you love (or hate). If you dread something, we’ll find another way. That’s part of the process.
#2: Consistency
You don’t need to be perfect.
But you do need to show up and follow through on the plan we agree to—whether that’s workouts, homework, or recovery.
And if that’s not happening? We talk it out.
Maybe I asked too much. Maybe life got in the way. Or maybe your results stalled and we need to do more.
Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out—together.
#3: Fun
Yes, really.
I want fitness to be something you look forward to. Not something you dread and force yourself through.
If you want to change the music, say so. If there’s a move that makes you feel strong, we’ll do more of it.
People stick with what they enjoy. That’s why I believe fun should be part of the plan—not a reward for finishing it.
Here’s what one of my clients recently told me:
“I actually look forward to my workouts now. I’ve never said that in my life.”
I saved the screenshot so you can see it for yourself.
