The Lesson I Learned Meeting My In-Laws (and How It Applies to Fitness)

"Austin personal trainer creating customized fitness plans for adults over 50 who want sustainable results.

Let me tell you a story about the first time I met Laura’s parents—16 years ago now.

It wasn’t just any introduction. It was the first time I was meeting any girlfriend’s parents. And it wasn’t just her parents either—it was Easter Sunday, and I was meeting her entire family.

No pressure, right?

Oh, and to make it even more interesting, at the time, I was working in new car sales. Let’s be honest, car salesmen don’t always have the best reputation. I knew I had to make a great impression.

So, I turned to the internet, diving into every article and blog I could find about meeting your significant other’s family for the first time. Nearly every source said the same thing: bring a gift.

Naturally, I asked Laura what her family might like. The winning answer?

Duck-shaped cookies from Quack’s Donuts.

Yep. Little cookies shaped like ducks.

So there I was on Easter Sunday, standing in front of Laura’s entire family, holding a box of duck cookies.

And guess what? They were a smash hit.

Fast forward to today—Laura and I are going on 13 years of marriage. Those cookies may have been small, but they set the tone.

Now, you might be wondering—what does this have to do with your fitness?

Simple. I didn’t wing it. I didn’t show up empty-handed, hoping for the best. I put in a little extra effort to prepare.

And that’s exactly how your fitness should be.

Most people dive into a fitness routine with zero plan—just hoping it works out.

Or worse, they copy random workouts they find online, thinking that’s enough.

But lasting results? Those come from intentional action. From knowing what works for your body and committing to it.

Whether it’s building strength, easing joint pain, or dropping a few pounds, it’s about doing the small things that set you up for success.

That’s why I design every program specifically for you. No cookie-cutter plans. No “one-size-fits-all” workouts.

Just a smart, sustainable plan built around where you are now and where you want to go.

Preparation Beats Guesswork—Every Time

Whether you’re walking into a family gathering or walking into the gym, a little preparation goes a long way. If you’re in Central Austin and tired of winging your workouts, let’s build a plan that actually works.
