One of the hardest questions in fitness is:
“Should this hurt?”
Because the answer isn’t always yes or no.
Sometimes discomfort means we’re asking your body to do something it hasn’t done in a while.
Sometimes it means we need to change the exercise.
Sometimes we just need less weight.
Less range of motion.
A slightly different position.
And sometimes?
Yeah, we need to stop.
That’s why I don’t love blanket rules like:
“Never exercise through pain.”
I’d rather ask a better question.
Why does it hurt?
Then we can decide what to do about it.
Here’s the Problem With “Just Push Through It”
Anybody can hand you a list of exercises.
The harder part is knowing what to do when your knee hurts halfway through one of them.
Do you stop?
Use less weight?
Change your position?
Shorten the range of motion?
Or is what you’re feeling completely normal?
That decision is where coaching actually matters.
Because if you’re over 50, the goal isn’t to prove you can survive a workout.
The goal is to get stronger without turning one questionable rep into a three-month setback.
Pain is information. Good training teaches you what to do with that information.

Not Ready to Hire a Trainer?
Good.
You shouldn’t spend money just because somebody put a big button in front of you.

Why Stretching Isn’t Helping: The WD-40 and Duct Tape Guide to Strength Over 50
Tight, stiff, or uncomfortable doesn’t always mean “stretch it.” Sometimes your body is asking for something completely different.
The point isn’t to become afraid of your body.
It’s to stop guessing about it.
