Why Would I Hire a Personal Trainer?

I recently hired a personal trainer as of December 2014.

Most people find this extremely surprising…..

They wonder why with all of my knowledge and experience of writing super effective programs I would want to spend my hard earned mula on someone else to train me.

Well there are several reasons but I guess the most basic one is always “I want to get even better results”.

You see, I am of the belief that EVERYONE can benefit from a coach.

All of the greatest athletes in the world have a coach:  Michael Jordan, Drew Brees, Body Builders, you name it.  I also believe that having a coach isn’t industry specific.

In addition to my personal trainer and coach I also employ a business coach.  Yeah, “Mr. Finance Major” from Trinity University has a business coach.

So with that out of the way back on topic:

Why Did I Hire a Coach?

Well to start with I have been on a plateau for nearly 6 months.

I was not getting any noticeable strength gains and thus my physique wasn’t changing.

And when I’m not getting stronger OR having my physique change I’m not having fun!  When I’m noticeably seeing results from workout to workout I have a ton of fun and the workouts are in and of themselves rewarding which leads to me being super consistent and stuff.

I’m just like anybody else and have my favorite exercises.  I find that I keep going back to them and avoiding some of the things that  I like, really hate….and I do mean REALLY hate and stuff.

Again, the lack of progression had also made it a lot easier for me to justify missing a day; especially around the holidays when excuses were bountiful.

I have now been working with my celebrity trainer and let me tell you the results are back!

Motivation: Personal Training – Personal Trainer in Austin, Tx

I am back to getting stronger every workout and loving it.

I can noticeably feel my range of motion and strength increasing and after my workout on Sunday I had to tell my father in law that “I’m feeling pretty skinny right now – think I’m going to go crush some food!”.

And I did – Hit up that Cypress Grill off of William Cannon and grabbed me a little cajun goodness.

In addition to more awesome results I have found that having someone else plan my workouts allows me to crush those workouts even harder.

You see my trainer is one my hero’s and a guru in the weight lifting world; therefore I trust him and his decisions implicitly.  If I am writing my own workouts I am always thinking to myself if I should have done this or should have done that.

Now – I just show up and do what is written on the paper with 100% EFFORT.

I’m not going to second guess a single thing because I trust my trainer and know that he is an expert and has me doing everything for a reason.

This is sweet because I get to turn my brain off for an hour and just worry about listening to my rock and roll music a little too loud and picking up heavy things.

It’s awesome and I once again look forward to every single workout that I do.

Now again – I can do this because I trust my trainer 100%.

If I had just grabbed some random trainer and asked them to do my programming I would be stuck examining and second guessing the whole program with a critical eye.

So it IS important to make sure you find a highly qualified coach in order to know you are doing the right things and therefore are able to give 100% to your workouts.

While those are the main reasons I hired my coach I have also enjoyed the benefits of his expertise and learning new exercises, combinations of exercises, and general overall program development.  It has helped me in turn do a better job with my programming and delivering better results for my clients.

I also love the accountability.  I’m paying for my coaching so you know darn well I’m gonna make all of the workouts and follow all of his advice to a “T”.

I’ve only missed one workout since hiring my trainer and this included traveling to and from Louisiana, Christmas, New Years, being busy with clients now that it is January, etc, etc, etc…

And even then I let my trainer know and he altered the plan to make sure I didn’t lose any progress from partying it up in New Orleans over my break!

So there ya go, why I hired my trainer.

Now you may be asking yourself if you should hire a coach.

Well I think you should if any of the following describe you:

Are you Trying to get better?

Are you lacking motivation?

Are you having trouble figuring out why you are not progressing?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these then you will probably benefit from having a coach of some form for some length of time.

If you are like me then it could very well be one of the best decisions you have ever made.
