Do Single Leg & Single Arm Exercises
Most orthopedic injuries are a result of one limb being significantly stronger or more flexible than the other. In regular people speak it sounds like “this is my good side” or “this is my good knee”.
As long as we have one side that is relatively better than the other, we will always move a little funny leading to further compensation and each side getting worse and worse when compared to one another.
The easiest way to fix this is to perform single-leg and single-arm exercises in the gym while limiting the weight and/or reps performed to what the ‘bad’ side can handle.
For example; if you press 30 lbs with your right arm but only 15 lbs with your left arm; we would use 15 lbs for BOTH sides until the left arm caught up with the right arm. When each side is of equal strength and relative flexibility, I guarantee that whatever orthopedic issues you were dealing with in your upper body (and maybe even back) will feel SIGNIFICANTLY better.
Here are a few of my favorite single-leg and single-arm exercises:
1. Deadlift Romanian Single Leg with 2 DB’s
Stay patient and only progress at the rate the ‘worse’ side allows and then thank me later ☺
