A bit of a switch up today.
Instead of a client question I thought I would share a demonstration I learned on a podcast recently.
It was an interview of Pavel Tsatsouline.
He currently trains the U.S. Navy Seals and before that the Russian SPETSNAZ. Suffice to say; this guy knows a few things about getting people strong.
He is also a king of taking complex fitness concepts and making them simple to understand.
What I want you to do is make a fist.
After making this fist you most likely will feel your forearms working.
Now make a mightier fist.
You should now start to feel you biceps working some.
Finally make the mightiest, most Captain America, turning coal into diamonds kinda of fist that you are capable are.
You should now start to feel your shoulder and maybe even your chest get involved.
This is demonstrating a concept called irradiation.
What this means is that when one muscle is flexion super hard the adjacent muscles will begin to become recruited and provide tension.
It is the main reason we have people do so many deadbugs!
Isolating and directly training the abs / mid section to contract harder will cause an irradiation to the upper and lower body; helping those areas to be recruited at a higher level and produce more force.
Pretty cool right?
And totally justifies all the deadbugs we have our clients do ;/)
