This is one of my favorite hip flexor stretches.
To perform it you will need a continuously looped resistance band with flat sides.
The braided, round bands with hands simply won’t work.
First wrap the band around the foot of the hip you want to stretch.
Make sure you are holding the opposite end of the band with the same hand as the foot the band is attached too.
In this video the band is on my right foot so I was holding it with my right hand.
Next place you opposite foot (my left in this video) in between your leg and band.
Then lean to your side and extend the hand holding the band above your head.
From here bring the knee of the leg NOT being stretched as high as you can to increase the stretch.
You can also lean towards your stomach a little in order to get the knee higher and again increase the stretch.
From this position you also have the option to alternate between extending the leg that is being stretched and relaxing.
Just be sure and not try to break the band when extending that leg. That is not the goal. The goal is to simply feel the muscle activate for a few seconds and then let it relax.
One last thing is that you can throw in some side lying windmills while in this position to help loosen up your chest, shoulders, and upper back region.
Give this one a shot and let me know what you think!
