One of the duties I dislike the most about owning my personal training studio is vacuuming before I go home at night.
As a small business owner, you are trained to “only do the things you can enjoy and delegate the rest.”
For me, the only things I can do and enjoy are the following:
1. Coach My Clients Through Their Training Session
2. Design Their Personalized Training Program
3. Write This Email
4. Record Coaching Videos
Great advice – except the fact that it is hard to hire someone for 15 to 20 minutes per day to come in and vacuum at the end of the day.
Enter – my Robot Vacuum. The perfect solution.
Except that on the very first night of running the machine, I received an error message. A quick Googling of the error suggested that the robot vacuumed up something that it shouldn’t, but I knew that couldn’t be true. The studio floor was completely empty. I cleaned it up myself. I knew there was nothing for it to vacuum up.
Talk about frustration. After ten hours of research and a ton of chat sessions with IT, I realized that I could have vacuumed the floor 100 times over in the time I spent troubleshooting the robot. At the end of it all, I decided to check to see if it had indeed sucked up something it shouldn’t have.
It had.
Problem solved. Google error – ACCURATE.
If only I would have checked this stupid simple thing that was suggested as the most likely cause for the robot not working I would have saved hours of frustration.
The simplest solution is often the right solution.
I see the same thing in fitness.
Most people look into carb cycling, intermittent fasting, restricted blood flow training, ketosis, burning candles, and praying to look for an answer.
While it COULD be one of those things; the most likely reason they aren’t reaching their fitness goals is:
1. Lack Of Consistency – Most people have tried just about everything but very few have stuck with a process for the entire duration that is suggested. Exercise works if you stick to it.
2. Lack Of Recovery – Sleep and Nutrition. This is almost always FAR from “ideal” and is also the easiest thing to fix. Way easier to sleep more than do a bunch of pushups!
Before spending a bunch of time thinking about your genetics, hormones, and the “Supplement De Jour” – look at these two factors and see if you are missing out here.
You got this,
Nate
