I first decided to start strength training with a personal trainer after I had multiple minor injuries during triathlons, half marathons, and distance bicycle rides. I realized that part of the underlying problem lay in muscle imbalances related to a past broken leg. Until I met Nate, I had worked with personal trainers for several years without really seeing significant improvements because many of my past trainers were unable to customize a regimen specifically tailored to my physical needs. I also found that my nutrition knowledge as a physician far surpassed their knowledge and they couldn’t tell me anything about diet that I didn’t already know. I found myself frustrated and felt like a failure when cardio, calorie counting, and twice a week strength training weren’t getting me to my goals of increased muscle mass and decreased body fat. Furthermore, despite working with a trainer I also kept getting little injuries when I attempted long distance bicycling or running.
When Nate became my trainer things began to change. He developed a program specifically tailored to my needs. I found his positive attitude supportive and motivating and he did a wonderful job of boosting my self-esteem. He organized our workouts so I could see weekly improvements in my strength and physical fitness. The corrective exercises he recommended were “spot on” and lead to further improvements in my skill with his workouts. Under his guidance I have been slowly building up running and bicycling and have noticed gains in my endurance and strength. If I do come in with little aches and pains he always has an effective way to make them better. He has also been able to give me dietary advice that I have found incredibly helpful and I have shared his tips with others.
It is because of Nate that I continue to prioritize strength training and am finally seeing the results I’ve heard so much about. He is an amazing trainer.
