How Should I Adapt My Workouts As I Age?

How Should I Adapt My Workouts As I Age?When trying to answer the question of “How Should I Adapt My Workouts As I Age?” It is important to first answer the questions of how long you have been working out, and, what kind of shape you are in today.

Two guys, (Drew Brees and Tom Brady) make this a tough question to answer.

If you are like Drew and Tom who have been on a Progressive Program most of their life, then for the most part, you won’t need to change much at all. Mostly, you will need a bit more time to recover.

Aside from that, you are playing with a bunch of twenty-something year old’s so you need to let it rip in the gym like a twenty-something year old. Only now, you can’t go out drinking all night and eat at Whataburger – you will need 8 to 9 hours sleep and some spinach.

In case you aren’t like Drew and Tom and you have had a career that put your fitness on the back burner for a few decades, then the answer is a bit different.

You will need to start slow, stay patient and EARN the right to ‘let it rip’.

And, when have patience and consistency, you may indeed “let it rip’!! I regularly have 50, 60 and even 70-year-olds doing pushups, deadlifts, and pull up variations.

There really isn’t anything that you can’t do because of your age (injury history is a different story).

What’s also cool is that it is never too late to start.

I have had clients with zero background in fitness begin their journey at 80+ years old and dramatically change their quality of life.

No reason that can’t be you too – as long as you start.

Train Consistently.

Can’t Lose,

Nate
