Never before has the subject of boosting your immune system been more popular – and for good reason!
There is good news though.
Recent research shows that regular exercise does boost our immune system, though the researchers aren’t quite sure yet why it works.
Here is the study:
A 2005 study at the University of Illinois placed mice infected with the flu into three different groups.
1. Group A was sedentary.
2. Group B exercised for 20 to 30 minutes a day.
3. Group C exercises for two and half hours per day.
Group B had an 82 percent survival rate; almost double the 43 percent survival rate in Group A and significantly higher than the 30 percent survival rate in Group C.
The theory is that moderate exercise tilts the body to limit excess inflammation; but too intense of exercise can suppress inflammation too much, preventing the immune cells from doing their job.
Human studies have found similar results as well. And other studies with mice have shown a reduction in systems with a single 45-minute workout.
