There was a long, long, time ago when modern safety features on cars weren’t standard.
No anti-block brakes or vehicle stability control required.
Then in the early 2010s, a law was enforced that these safety features must be inside a car.
Guess what happened?
Accidents with cab drivers increased!
How could there be more accidents with better safety features than without? And, what the heck does this have to do with fitness?
With the newer safety features, the drivers became more aggressive – driving faster and allowing less time to stop. They were making driving decisions that they otherwise wouldn’t have made.
This is very similar to when I hear of someone getting a shot to take care of their pain before attempting other methods to feel better. The shot usually isn’t ‘fixing’ anything. It is simply masking the pain which can lead to the person being ‘more aggressive’ in life – performing activities that they normally wouldn’t.
What’s sad is that when the shot begins to wear off, the person is in an even worse position than before. Mainly, because they didn’t take care of the underlying issues that resulted in them needing/wanting the shot in the first place.
Now, the perfect solution probably lies somewhere in the middle. Have better safety features in the vehicle AND drive safely.
Go ahead and get the shot (to help with inflammation) AND work on the underlying issues so that when the shot wears off, you still feel good and aren’t sent in search of yet another shot.
