Something They Didn’t Mention

I just got back from watching The Hail Mary Project and thought it was pretty good.

Went in knowing nothing other than Ryan Gosling in a space movie based on the same author as The Martian.

Did not expect it to turn into a buddy comedy with an alien that communicates through grunting.

Solid B. Maybe B-.

Which is perfect — I love a good B movie.

But one thing stuck with me.

The movie opens with Gosling’s character waking up after being in an induced coma for something like 10 years while traveling to another solar system.

They mention how his memory might take time to come back.

They talk about his muscles needing to wake up again.

But not a word about his bones.

And all I could think about was…

there’s no way he makes it through that opening scene without breaking something.

Floating around, bumping into things, completely deconditioned…

those bones would be in trouble.

Because bones don’t just stay strong on their own.

They need a reason.

They need load.

And when they don’t get it for long enough…

they lose it.

Which is also the good news.

Because the reverse is true too.

When you give your body the right kind of load — controlled, consistent, and progressive —

it adapts.

Bones included.

Stronger bones do not happen by accident.

They happen when your body is given a reason to adapt.

That is the difference between hoping you stay independent… and building a body that can actually back it up.

If you are over 50 and want a smart, safe plan to get stronger without getting hurt, this is exactly what I help people do here in Austin.
