Why I Still Hire Coaches (Even With a Business Degree)

Middle-aged man smiling in a gym, surrounded by fitness clients over 50 in Austin.

Every time I mention I’m in a business coaching group, people look at me sideways.

“You already own the business. Didn’t you major in this stuff?”

I did. Graduated from one of the top academic schools in the country with a business degree. And observationally? I guess you’d say things are going pretty well.

So why still be a student?

Because inspiration matters.

I don’t go to learn how to run a P&L. I go to stay sharp, stay hungry, and surround myself with people who remind me what’s possible. People who push me to raise my standards. Not because I’m failing—because I want to be the best of the best.

Same reason people stay in fitness once they’ve “figured out the basics.”

Sure, you need instruction when you start. But what keeps you showing up isn’t the cues. It’s the crew.

It’s looking over and seeing someone one step ahead and thinking, “Maybe I can do that too.”

It’s seeing someone brand new and realizing, “Wow, I’ve really come a long way.”

It’s walking into a room where people actually get what you’re going through—because they’re living it too.

That kind of camaraderie? It’s not an accident.

It’s what happens when you surround yourself with people who care about the same stuff you do.

Still Waiting for the “Right Time”? Here’s the Truth:

The older you get, the less margin you have to gamble with your health. You don’t need another “maybe someday.” You need a plan that works—now.

50 STRONG is built for people over 50 who want to stay out of pain, off prescriptions, and off their kids’ worry list. It’s not a bootcamp. It’s not a silver sneaker shuffle. It’s coaching that actually works—because it’s built around you.
