I think one of the reasons people always get hurt lifting weights—
even with a trainer…
even when they’re “doing everything right”…
is this:
Nobody ever plans to back off.
There’s a concept called “deloading.”
It just means intentionally making your workout easier for a bit—
so your body can recover, rebuild, and keep making progress.
But almost nobody does it.
Even if you followed every piece of advice I’ve given this week—
- like using progressive overload to make your workout slightly harder each week…
- or adding reps, pauses, or deeper range instead of piling on weight…
- or choosing exercises that are joint-friendly and smart…
If it’s always:
Harder.
Harder.
Harder…
You either become The Rock.
Or you get hurt.
Most people fall into the second group.
That’s why I use a super simple rhythm with my clients:
Week 1: Find your starting point
Week 2: A little harder
Week 3: A little harder
Week 4: Much easier
Then repeat.
That’s how you stay consistent.
That’s how you avoid injuries.
That’s how you finally get stronger—maybe stronger than ever.
