I use to think that personal trainers were about bullying exercise out of a person by intimidation.
Nope. That is SO not so.
Not with Nate.Nate works with me, not against my resistance. I enjoy our sessions because they are kind and interesting, not mean. With him, my inner experience of exercise is friendly. My body and my brain aren’t fighting, they are allies, cooperating. I didn’t know very much about how about how my body works. I just knew that I’m getting older and needed to feel better. Nate trains me on how to actually enjoy working my body. He shows me. I’m interested now. I want to exercise now. From him I’ve learned things that drop my jaw because they are counter-intuitive to common ideas about how to work out. I don’t retain the scientific language of the info he explains to me, but I do remember how to implement it. He is on top of science about the body and he let’s me know what is useful. I’m always curious about his findings. I started exercising with Nate as my personal trainer for mood elevation. With him, I have that and a whole lot more. Being 53 and fat (I am 5′ 7″ & weigh 230 lbs), I am fit for the first time in a long time and significantly more comfortable in my body, life, & emotions. Exercising with his guidance I’ve never been hurt, and there is no more pain in my knees, neck, or back. I now move in ease. My weight has become strength. Because he explains what to do, I don’t feel stupid and awkward in the gym any more.
He respects my intelligence and dignity.
And I respect his.
